Fluke Motorsport Carbon Dash!
I have started something...
August/September 2005
With the engine in place its time to turn my attention to the Dash and instruments... It was about this time that I decieded to stray from the mould... Shiney things are tempting me...hmm Carbon Fibre... sweet carbon fibre.

Not only that but having just bought a ETB Digidash (DD1) I am unwittingly making a rod for my own back... I HAVE NEVER DONE ELECTRICS!!!!...EVER But I was not thinking about this at the time....Just shiney shiney... I must stick to the budget... too late

So off I went to the Fluke Motorsports' Website -
Clicky - a few pounds later and I have a shiney carbon dashboard blank with SVA friendly return edge.
This then needs cutting to shape... a jigsaw with a metal cutting bit is the best way forward, so I set to work making a cardboard and then ali template.

With this in place as a guide on the scuttle I mark out the holes I am looking for. Steering column, indicator, lights, horn and hazard switch...

I then transfered these onto the carbon blank with the aid of masking tape. Being cautious to over cut the dash by about 3mm giving me a margin for error, I can shave this back later with my dremel.
With the dash cut. The first daring hole is cut out was for the steering column. Once this was over come... which I might add was a very stressful time. Get it wrong and it's back on the web.

With confidence growing, next was the hole for the dash. Using hole cutters and a rough markup, again in masking tape. I began to cut this out and mount the digi dash. This was done with aid of ali brackets mounted to the digidash via screws on the back and fixed inplace on the CF dash with rivnuts and m5 rounded blackened allen bolts - see below.

All in all not a bad job.
